Gimoka sources all its beans fairly and directly from producers in South America, Africa and Asia. Since Italy never colonised any coffee growing countries, they've always had their pick of the best beans from all over the world. This isn't single origin coffee, but a mix of beans chosen by coffee experts on site to give you the perfect blend for any time of day.
Gimoka is one of the few Italian coffee companies to do everything in house. Our beans are roasted in small batches at the family roasting house (la casa del caffè) on Lake Como. Each bean variety is roasted individually using a combination of traditional artisan methods and the latest technology. You're welcome to visit the Casa del Caffè to try the beans fresh from the roaster!
Both Gimoka and Gran Caffè Garibaldi are Fair Trade Certified, as well as being members of 4C Association and UTZ, two leading global organisations that monitor that all our coffee is grown, shipped and roasted in an environmentally and economically sustainable way.
If you visit Italian homes today, chances are you'll find a capsule coffee machine. For Italians, it's not about convenience. Coffee is a ritual and while bars close, the desire for good coffee is 24/7. Italians use capsule machines because they produce a great espresso time after time. They use Gimoka because they want authentic bar coffee at home.
No, our Gimoka Nespresso compatible capsules® will not damage your machine or affect the warranty. They're specifically designed for Nespresso machines. The manufacturer's warranty is not related to the use of any specific capsule, so your Nespresso machine warranty remains completely unaffected. Nespresso itself has stated repeatedly that compatible pods won't void your warranty. Read more about this here!
That is completely normal with some coffee machine models. We use a recyclable plastic, a material which is a bit stronger than Nespresso® aluminium capsules, which means it takes a bit more effort to close your lever.
blah blah blah
Yes, our capsules are environmentally friendly. They are packaged in recyclable cardboard boxes and are made of fully recyclable Polypropylene plastic. Once the capsules have been used, simply put them in your organic recycling. The coffee can be scraped out and put in your food recycling or compost bin for your plants!
The authentic Italian espresso is only 25ml or about 1 tablespoon. A lot of coffee machines will make a longer espresso as they think it's more suited to 'international' tastes, so you might have to stop your machine before it finishes brewing to get a coffee that's nice and 'corto' (short). See our ultimate brew guide for more.
Italian espresso is short, syrupy and packs a punch. It shouldn't be more than 25ml, so even if your coffee machine has an espresso setting, you should consider stopping the machine after it's produced a tablespoon of coffee if you want a true Italian espresso. Read our ultimate brew guide for more tips.
Our coffee is very finely ground. Occasionally a few of the very finest particles of coffee may get past the filter plate and extract along with the coffee into the cup. Coffee is a natural product and this will not affect your health. By rinsing the machine, the remaining coffee grains may be flushed out of the machine.

Coffee has four main enemies: heat, moisture, oxygen and time. Coffee should be stored in a dry place (never in the fridge) and kept away from direct sunlight. Coffee starts oxidising the minute you open the packet. That amazing coffee smell? That’s actually your coffee losing flavour bit by bit. Coffee should be packed immediately after roasting and drunk no less than a week later. The packets you buy in the supermarket is already weeks old. Our coffee is sealed in the capsules immediately after being roasted and grounded. This oxygen and moisture-free environment, keeps our coffee fresh and gives it a much longer life than ground coffee or loose beans.
Our Gimoka and Gran Caffè Garibaldi capsules are compatible with all Delonghi/Breville Nespresso machines including Le Cube, all Essenza models, all Pixie models, all Citz models, all Latissima models, all U models, Maestria and Inissia.
